How Are Air Dryers and Nitrogen Generators Used in Textile Plants?

July 30, 2019

The annual global output of the textile industry exceeds $400 billion. Large textile manufacturers look for innovative and efficient ways to keep their factories producing at a high level. Compressed air is used in various textile applications including texturizing, airjet weaving, man-made fiber production and spinning, where dryers are also needed. Pneumatech's dryers and nitrogen generators play a key role in many textile manufacturers around the globe.

Desiccant & Refrigerated Dryers

All compressed air systems produce some amount of water or moisture. In a textile factory, there are many steps in the manufacturing process that need to be kept free of any humidity and/or contaminants. By using a refrigerated or desiccant dryer, you help prevent potential downtime or damage to equipment caused by water. Using a dryer can help prevent:

  • Rusting in pneumatic controls or any moving parts related to manufacturing
  • Freezing the inside control lines
  • Corrosion in any instruments that are used in the manufacturing process, resulting in inaccurate readings and production stops

Using Pneumatech dryers can also prevent the ruining of any final textile product. When working with most fabrics or cloths, it is imperative that moisture is kept out to prevent molding or ruining of the fabric. Adding filters downstream of the compressor will also keep out any contaminants that can ruin the texture or color of the final product.

Nitrogen Gas Generators

While the benefits of using dryers in a textile plant are varied and well known, nitrogen gas has flown under-the-radar in its benefits to textile production and processes. Many textile factories have begun using nitrogen gas as a way to treat certain fabrics for different textures and  enhancing dyed fabric's colors. Having on-site gas generation is also more cost-efficient, safer and environmentally friendly than having nitrogen gas delivered to your facility.

Nitrogen is also used to make the sewing needles that are used in textiles to produce garments and fabric. During the heat treatment process of making the steel needles, nitrogen is used to remove any oxygen that could potentially cause oxidation and ruin the needles before they ever leave the manufacturer.
